Do I have to be Jewish to belong?
Everyone is welcome at the JCC! Our membership is a wonderful blend of cultures, ages, and families. We strive for diversity in our quest for a feeling of community in our halls and program areas.

What is included when I purchase a JCC membership?
Membership at the York JCC includes free use of the fitness center, group fitness classes, water exercise classes, lap and family swims, open gymnasium use, use of the hydrotherapy spa, steam room, sauna and discounts on dozens of classes.

What is the initiation fee?
The initiation fee is charged to all new members as well as to members whose membership payments lapse more than one year. This fee is applied to facility maintenance and upkeep as well as debt reduction.

What are my payment options? Do I have to commit to one year?
We offer two payment plans. Annual payment for one year, effective at the time of application, or monthly payment by bank draft. Bank draft is for a minimum of one full year and is continuous. After the first year, members will continue to draft but may discontinue their membership at any time with 30 days written notice.

Are there special financial arrangements available?
We recognize the need to serve all members of the community, regardless of their ability to pay the full cost of programs or membership. To apply for financial assistance, simply ask for an application.

Can I freeze my membership?
Members can freeze their memberships for medical reasons only. Extensions will be granted for time lost due to illness, surgery, etc. A physician's note must accompany all requests.

Is there a locker available to store my things while I'm here?
Lockers are available for daily use in all of our locker rooms. We strongly recommend that members secure their items with a lock. A limited quantity of locks are available for loan at the front desk for members to borrow while they are here. Locks are not to be kept on lockers overnight. Patron members are given permanent locks for overnight use as a benefit of their Patron membership.

May I bring a guest?
Members are welcome to invite their friends and families to join them at the JCC. We offer four guest passes per year to individual adults and eight for families. Tracking of the guest passes is computerized and the number of available passes is adjusted with each use. Members may bring up to two guests at one time. Please see the member handbook for additional guidelines.

At what age can teens use the fitness center?
The fitness center is open to all JCC members 13 years of age and older. Members 13 - 15 years of age may use the fitness center if accompanied by a parent or if they pass a 4-visit, mandatory training program with an instructor.

How and when do I register for a class?
Member registration begins several days prior to both non-member enrollment and the start of the session. We offer several registration options including, phone-in, walk-in and on-line. Classes usually last 7 weeks. You are strongly encouraged to register promptly since enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to availability.

How do I get started?
We highly recommend that members get a medical examination before beginning any fitness program. We will be happy to perform your first FIT evaluation for you, free of charge. Appointments may be made by calling or stopping by the fitness center. If swimming is where you'd like to begin, please check the pool schedule and jump in! You do not need to register for any water fitness or land aerobic classes.

What is the message center?
The message center is a place where members can get the most updated and current information on upcoming classes, activities and trips as well as program changes and cancellations. We currently have 4 message centers. They are located in the lobby, dance studio hallway, fitness center hallway and the early childhood wing.
