Dance

The JCC's youth fitness department has provided quality dance programming in York for over 50 years. Our tap and ballet classes for children ages 3-8 provide a great first experience for families interested in exposing their children choreographed dance.
Our classes are offered in the fall and winter, and are taught by experienced instructors who love the discipline. (See Fall I Session Guide and Winter Session Guide for details). Click here for session schedule.
Program fees are affordable and include 16 weeks of class, rehearsal, recital and costumes. The program will provide the friendly and positive environment your child needs to begin developing a life-long passion for dance!

It all starts here!

Dance Instructors

Ballet and Tap Instructor Cheryl Smith began dancing at the age of three. By the time she was fifteen she was instructing tap, ballet, and jazz for two recreation councils and Jean Kettell Studio of Dance in Baltimore. At seventeen, Cheryl auditioned for the New York Radio City Music Hall Rockettes and passed the audition but decided to get married and continue to teach dance in Baltimore.

Ballet and Tap Instructor Robin Weist began dancing at the age of three and continued into her teen years. She began teaching while attending college and has taught ballet and tap ever since. She has a passion for dance and she very much enjoys working with children.

Hip-Hop Dance Instructor Bobby Noga began dancing at the age of 3. She has performed hip hop at several local venues. She has been teaching JCC hip hop class since 2011. Bobbi enjoys teaching and watching her students progress in their creativity and dance moves. This year she will be attending Penn State York and majoring in education.

Dance Instructor Amanda Kannel  began dancing at the age of 5 and continued throughout high school and college.  She was trained in the areas of ballet, tap, and jazz.  She has since taught dance and choreographed for camps as well as teaching ballet and tap at the JCC before taking time off with her 4 children. She is excited to help children express themselves and build confidence through the art of dance.
