Aquatics Center Renovation

We are excited to announce that we have an updated timeline for the remaining projects in our Aquatics Center Renovations, and we are projecting an opening date of July 11.

Timeline:

  • May 25: Concrete was poured, must sit for 7 days
  • May 25: Electricians set up filter room.
  • May 25-June 6: Power spray and paint ceiling and walls.
  • June 7: Begin tiling pool deck.
  • June 13-14: Tentatively begin plastering pool and whirlpool.
  • June 15-16: Tentatively begin filling pool.
  • June 20: Cleaning/painting pool office.
  • June 27-July 1: Laboratories, Department of Health, and Department of Pesticides inspections.

Once the pool is filled, chemicals must not be added for 72 hours. The pool must be brushed for loose dust, and the pool must sit for approximately 28 days until heat can be added.

We will be sure to provide you more updates as they become available.

What does this mean for our community?

The York community relies on the JCC Aquatics Center to provide high-quality facilities for swimming instruction, community wellness, group fitness classes, social engagements, relaxation activities, open swim, and play. The renovation will ensure that we can enhance and continue to provide these valuable services.

A Brand New Facility

In a few months, our Aquatics Center will look brand new.

  • Extensive modifications to the pool deck
  • Complete re-plastering of the pool and whirlpool
  • State-of-the-art filter, gutter, and draining systems
  • New ladders, lane lines, and backstroke flags
  • New steps to enter the pool
  • New lighting in the pool area

The aesthetic updates alone are very exciting. However, after consulting with engineers and advisors, we’ve determined that these renovations are also essential to maintain the structural integrity of the facility. The JCC has committed approximately $1 million to ensure that we can continue to offer a high-quality facility and programming. The renovations will complete the enhancement of the four major areas of the building — the Early Childhood Education Wing, the Fitness Center, the Lobby, and now the Aquatics Center.

Land Classes

Each month we’ll have our water fitness classes on land, as well as our ongoing group fitness classes.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When will the pool renovations begin?
  • December 17, 2021

  • Why now?
  • The JCC pool, which has been in operation for 30+ years, continues to function with its original equipment. Not only is the pool equipment in need of replacement, today’s technology will benefit us in a number of ways:

    • The new, state-of-the-art UV filtration system will eliminate bacteria, which will reduce the amount of chlorine and improve the water quality
    • Remote monitoring of pool chemicals will allow us to easily check and maintain consistent chemicals, water levels, and temperature
    • The filtration system’s variable-speed motor can be adjusted based on pool usage (time of day, building closures, etc.), allowing us to be more environmentally conscious
  • Will you still offer fitness classes?
  • Yes. Please visit the JCC Fitness Center and Aquatics pages for information about the programs we will offer. The JCC has always provided fitness classes for all ages and abilities, and while some aquatics-related programs will continue as “land” classes, other programming will be suspended during the Aquatics Center closure. Check the calendar above for up-to-date fitness offerings, and join us January 3rd to sample an assortment of classes and social programming that may fit your needs (more information to come).

  • I only use the pool – what can I do with my membership?
  • We are excited to offer water fitness classes on land! Join us January 3rd to sample an assortment of classes and social programming that may fit your needs. If you have additional questions regarding your membership, please contact our jcc@yorkjcc.org or 717.843.0918.
