This event is funded by a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Central Pennsylvania.

Purim (POUR-um) begins sundown March 23 and ends sundown March 24. It is a joyous holiday that recounts the saving of the Jews from a threatened massacre during the Persian period (539-330 BCE).

The story of Purim is recounted in the Book of Esther, whose eponymous heroine plays the leading role in saving her people from the evil king’s advisor Haman.

The holiday is traditionally celebrated by reading from the Book of Esther, celebrating with wild abandon by dressing up and eating delicious foods, and giving out Mishloach Manot (gift baskets) to the community. If you hear the name Haman, make sure to boooooooo loudly!
