Pre-Register for the Defiant Requiem Film Screening

Join us for this impactful event commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Viewers will be introduced to the documentary film Defiant Requiem, the little-known but meaningful story of Jewish conductor Rafael Schächter and a group of prisoners in the Terezín ghetto during the Holocaust who learned to sing Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem Mass as an act of creative resistance.

Following the film screening, there will be a question and answer session led by the President and Artistic Director of The Defiant Requiem Foundation, Maestro Murry Sidlin.

In addition to the film screening at the York JCC, the York Symphony Orchestra will be performing the orchestral version of Defiant Requiem live on March 8, 2025.

The York JCC’s Babysitting Room will be available for families of attendees, and pre-registration is required.
