Holocaust Film Series – The Commandant’s Shadow

April 12 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

FREE!

Join us for a two-part film series exploring how cinema helps us understand and teach the Holocaust. This program will feature screenings of The Zone of Interest on April 8 and The Commandant’s Shadow on April 12. Following the screening of The Commandant’s Shadow, discussion will be led by Dr. Kay McAdams of York College of Pennsylvania.

Dr. McAdams will explore how Holocaust history is represented on screen and why these two recent films are especially powerful tools for Holocaust education. She will also discuss how she incorporates film into the classroom to help students grapple with difficult histories, ethical questions, and the human dimensions of the Holocaust.

Both film screenings are FREE and pre-registration is required for each. You may register for one or both of the film screenings.

The Commandant’s Shadow – Sunday, April 12 at 2 PM in the York JCC Adult Lounge

This powerful documentary examines the legacy of Rudolf Höss through the perspective of his descendants and those connected to the victims of Auschwitz. By bringing together family members of perpetrators and survivors, the film explores intergenerational memory, responsibility, and how the Holocaust continues to shape lives today.
